what happens to debt upon death
parent’s death?

Hello,
When my parent dies and I am the only kin left, will I be responsible for that parent’s outstanding bills? (approx.100K) We rent in the same residence but the only thing we have joint is our checking account, and there is no estate upon death.
What happens to the deceased unpaid credit card debts?

You are only personally responsible if you are a coborrower or cosigner for your parent’s debts. Otherwise, the debts are paid, to the extent possible, from your parent’s estate. If the assets are insufficient to pay the debts, the remaining debt is discharged. That means, however, that there will be nothing left to inherit.
