Debt collections dispute and the statute of limitations?

If I dispute a collections account and it is found to be valid does that reinstate the statute of limitations in my state and allow the to come after me legally?

the only way they can re-start the clock (presuming the debt is out of limitations), is if you to acknowledge you owe the debt, or you make any form of payment. Requesting validation does not mean you acknowledge the debt.
If the debt does exceed your states SOL, they can still request you pay, but cannot sue you in court.
