poor credit credit cards in canada

When a couple gets married is their credit history automatically combined?
My common-law husband and I are thinking about getting married and wondering if it will affect his credit. He has great credit, mine is poor (I defaulted on a credit card years ago, but have since paid it back a 9 mths ago). We live in NS Canada.
No.
My wife has bad credit, mostly due to medical bills and little payment history. I have pretty good credit. All it meant was, that when we went to buy a house, we could only apply for the loan in my name. She is building her credit up now, and the only thing I have to do with it is that I help earn the household income! What is nice about it is that we know if there is going to be a large debt, say a medical bill, that was unexpected, we try to put it against her so that at least one of us has good credit. Thankfully, nothing like this has happened so her credit is improving each month.
