Cost of living for young people?

I was wondering if the cost of living in the UK is to prevent young people leaving home and make their lives. In the U.S., it became very difficult for youths to find a job that pays enough to buy a house or apartment and go to adult age. Many young return to live with their parents after college because they can not afford to be themselves. Many 20-somethings are in debt from student loans and cards credit. Many can not get a job that pays enough to buy a new car let alone a place to live. Young people are delaying their lives until they feel more financially stable, but that day seems far away. The situation is similar in the UK where young people tend to be poorer than their parents.
