bad credit score number
What is worse for my credit score, the dollar amount owed or the number of passed due account?

I just got my free credit report and I have 11 passed due accounts. Ouch! However, the total amount owed is only $2,836. My question is twofold. First, which looks worse for my credit score, the number of bad accounts (11 – which is awful) or the total dollar amount owed ($2,836 – which isn’t that bad)? Second, since all of these debts are from the same company, specially the same hospital, is there any way to get these accounts consolidate to one bad account worth $2,836 instead of 11 separate accounts? Thanks a lot!

Finance is what I do for a living and the 11 past due accounts are much, much worse then the amount owed.

As far as how old they are per the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Federal law) these accounts can only show on your credit report for 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days nothing but nothing resets this time line.

This doe’s not mean that you don’t still owe theses accounts only that once this time line passes they can no longer show on your credit report.
